Volunteer Opportunities
.Rockville HELP offers many rich opportunities to get involved. You can sign up for just one day a month, or more, if you're able. You can help by:
Handling phone calls (Officer of the Day, "OD"): Call voice mail box to retrieve messages, call back clients, and refer them to Food Drivers or Financial Assistance Officers as needed. You're on call for the day but can retrieve and return calls when you have the time. Any calls not cleared are passed on to the OD on duty the following day. Delivering food to families (Food Drivers) You need your own vehicle. Wait for referrals from the OD. Pack bags in the food pantry and deliver them to families' homes. You're on call for the day but can do the deliveries when you have the time and the clients have someone at home to receive them (most Drivers do them early to late afternoon). Working with a partner is best but many of our Drivers work alone. (Families with children old enough to be of help are welcome.) Deliveries that could not be completed are passed on to the Driver on duty the following day. We are unfortunately not able to accommodate volunteers under the age of 18 without a parent or guardian present. (We can sign SSL forms for students volunteering with their parents, but the activity has to be cleared by the SSL coordinator at their school first.) Due to limited space in the pantry, we're also not able to host volunteer groups larger than four or five people. |
Volunteers are the lifeline of Rockville HELP.We work from our homes, offices or out in the community. Some give a few hours a month, others are on call for a week or more. Others give a full day. Hours are flexible.
Through our commitment to others, help is just a call away. Interested? Please contact us at [email protected]. We'll try to respond as soon as possible.
